Let’s dive into the top trends shaping the trucking industry this year.
Improved Safety Regulations
Safety remains a top priority for truck drivers in 2025. According to the American Trucking Association, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) wants to propose a speed limit mandate on heavy-duty trucks. They also want to require all Automatic Emergency Braking Systems (AEB) in all trucks, Class 3 or higher. This is expected to be finalized in early 2025, and the speed limit mandate decision in May 2025.
There may also be several expansions on current regulations. For instance, The FMSCA wants to expand on Electronic Logging Device (ELD) Regulations, and some revisions on Safety Measurement System (SMS). There will also be stricter enforcement of drug and alcohol violations for truck drivers, drivers will have to complete the return-to-duty process before earning their CDL back. Look for continued growth in safety measures for truck drivers next year!
Data Analytics & Fleet Management
Data-driven fleet management is taking center stage. Fleet managers are using data analytics to optimize routes, monitor vehicle performance, and predict maintenance needs. This will significantly increase operating efficiency. In 2025, we’ll see an increase in investments for telematics and fleet management software.
